Support/FAQ

Q -Why will my television only go to channel 13?

A - When the power goes off to a television, the television will automatically revert to its "factory settings" which only allows "off air" or "antenna" signals to pass through to the television. To fix this you must go into the "menu" settings and switch the T.V. from "air" or "TV" or "antenna" setting to the "cable" setting. Once you have done this the channels will go above 13 again. If you have trouble finding this setting refer to your owner's manual or "Call For Service".

Q -My cable signal is bad from approximately channel 10 down, but the channels above are fine. Why is this?

A - There are two common causes:

1. Your VCR or Recordable DVD is on and is blocking the cable signal, turn the VCR or DVD off and the signal will return.

2. Put your television on channel 3, if you can see video coming from "A Channel Barrie" you have a problem with exposed cable wiring. This means that your cable has been damaged or deteriorated to the point where "off air" signals can easily enter the signal stream and weaken the cable signal. This can be very difficult to diagnose and repair, as the problem may easily escape detection. It is recommended that you "Call For Service".

Q -My cable signal is bad from approximately channel 35 and up, but the channels below are fine. Why is this?

A - There are two common causes:

1. Your VCR or Recordable DVD is on and is blocking the cable signal, turn the VCR or DVD off and the signal will return.

2. Put your television on channel 2, the signal should be good, slowly scroll through the channels upward towards 51. As you approach the 30's the signal starts to weaken until it gets very bad around channel 40. This is a sign that the cable can no longer pass higher frequency signals, there are many causes of this, it is recommended that you "Call For Service".

A - There are two common causes:

1. Your VCR or Recordable DVD is on and is blocking the cable signal, turn the VCR or DVD off and the signal will return.

2. There has been some digging in your yard or neighbour's yard and the cable has been severed. The cables are not very deep in the ground and can be cut very easily. Q - All my channels are bad, this happened suddenly and my neighbour's cable is off as well. Why is this?

A - There has been a failure in the cable system. There can be many causes for this however the failure may just be temporary. Please "Call For Service" and let the dispatcher know the cable is off and if it goes to message please leave details of the problem, your Name, Address, Phone number and the time. If we already know the cable is off, the dispatcher will let you know or the message on the machine will have information pertaining to the problem.

Q - Why is there is no sound on any of my channels?

A - There are many possible causes of this, the most common being the external speakers on the television have inadvertently been turned off. To fix this, it is easiest to refer to the owner's manual of your television. Look under the heading "sound" or "audio" to determine how to turn the external speakers back on. If you continue to have problems please "Call For Service".

Q - There is no sound (or the audio is in another language) on some stations. Why is this?

A - The Closed Captioning (or "CC") on your television has inadvertently been turned on. The most common cause of this is a button on the remote has been pressed. In order to remedy this problem, the same button needs to be pressed again, sometimes repeatedly until the closed captioning has been disabled. If you cannot reset the closed captioning please "Call For Service".

Q - There is a black square on my screen, it goes away when I change channels, but comes back within seconds. Why is this?

A - The Closed Captioning or "CC" on your television has inadvertently been turned on. This is a form of closed captioning called "text captioning", it allows the viewer to see only text instead of video. The most common cause of this is a button on the remote has been pressed. In order to remedy this problem, the same button needs to be pressed again, sometimes repeatedly until the closed captioning has been disabled. If you cannot reset the closed captioning please "Call For Service".
